Larry Wilmore takes on troll in Real Time With Bill Maher appearance

Comedian, writer and political commentator Larry Wilmore appeared on this week’s Real Time With Bill Maher along side a controversial gay far-right internet troll, and had showed a better understanding of gay rights and the oppression LGBT people have faced then the far-right journalist.

In defending the ridiculous position that transgender persons shouldn’t be allowed to use the washroom of their identified gender, Wilmore drew a parallel between the current controversy and how gays and African-Americans have been marginalized in society. The former Daily Show correspondent point out that often an extreme case is used as an object to attack an entire segment of society, so if one transgender person wants to commit sexual assault then all transgender people want to commit sexual assault. Attempting to defend himself, Milo labelled transgender people with a psychological disorder and threw out an unsourced statistic that trans people are disproportionally involved in ‘sex crime’. (Numerous people have fact-checked the outrageous claim which is correct except what he failed to mention is that trans people are the victims in those cases from just those that get reported).

Wilmore even recognized that gays have struggled to come to terms with their sexuality due to being marginalized and labelled with ‘disorders’ which the younger gay journalist didn’t seem to grasp, instead wanting to make an argument about not being able to have a child with his boyfriend.
