Pride season begins on iTunes
Apple has added a new page on iTunes just in time for Pride season. The LGBT Pride page features hand-picked films, albums, books, podcast and apps. You’ll find a few films we haven’t covered already in our Gay movies on iTunes guide, although these are mostly lesbian movies.
The film list includes a few new films and classics we’ve missed including Wade Gasque’s 2015 movie Tiger Orange starring Mark Strano and Frankie Valenti. Of course they’re missing a few of the films we’ve highlighted.
“Every June, we commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots—a history-making moment in which gay men and women fought back after decades of relentless discrimination. It heralded the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, launching the struggle for public visibility, cultural acceptance, and legal equality that the LGBT community has continued battling for ever since. To celebrate these efforts, we’ve gathered a selection of movies, music, TV shows, apps and more—all reflecting the broad and diverse spectrum of LGBT pride.”
Unlike Apple are focus has not been as diverse within the LGBT community, of course we’re a group of gay male voices and would never presume to speak for women. That said, this is a great selection of movies featuring LGBT stories.
Interesting to see how few out musicians being featured on this iTunes page. Yes there’s this years hot artist Sam Smith and a few 80s classics (Bronski Beats The Age of Consentanyone), but there are more artists out out there. With their first full album only dropping in July, our personal favorite new band is the Years & Years with adorable hottie frontman Olly Alexander. It is nice to see Frank Ocean’s new album Channel ORANGE getting an iTunes shout out. Worth adding as well is singer Mika who’s newest album No Place In Heaven will be released on June 16.
