British Olympic diver Tom Daley comes out

Last week Tom Daley finally put rumors to rest and came out, as straight. Daley, who recently placed first in Attitude Magazine’s Sexiest Men in the World list, has been the object to speculation for years now. ‘I think it’s funny when people say I’m gay’, he told the UK newspaper, the Daily Mirror.

The teenage diver for Team GB first got noticed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but in last year’s London games, Daley was on home turf. Post games, Daley hosted a celebrity diving competition reality-tv show often wearing little more than his trademark speedos. Fans remarked on twitter during the show that Daley could be seen checking out the male contestants. Twitter has been a source of speculation among fans, and though Daley may deny it, gays will continue to speculate.

But Daley doesn’t have any ill feelings about his gay following. “…I can understand why I have a massive gay following, I spend most of my life half naked in trunks on a diving board showing off my bare chest,” he said in the interview with the Mirror, adding further, “I often joke I wear more to bed than I do to work”.

Even after coming out straight, gays will happily welcome Daley onto the team if he changes his mind, of course it could be true, after all some people are just born that way.

Here’s Daley with out Australian diver Matthew Mitcham.
