Stonewall tells the story of the famous June 1969 gay rights riots caused by police raid on the Stonewall Inn in NYC’s Greenwich Village, an event in history that have been marked every year since, more commonly known as pride.

Roland Emmerich, better known for his blockbuster apocalyptic films Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and White House Down, first shared the project in 2013. The director is also well-known for his advocacy of not just gay rights but of women’s rights and climate change. With a budget meagre by his usual standards, Stonewall has been a personal project for Emmerich.

International rights were previously secured at the beginning of the year, setting up Stonewall for a worldwide release. We only wish the film could have been ready for screens in time for the anniversary of Stonewall.
