When Riverdale premiered only four weeks ago, Kevin Keller the gay character introduced in the comics a few years ago, was included as an important recurring character, but also likely the only gay character. But last night things changed when Kevin was found making out with bad boy Joaquin (Rob Raco).

With each episode the CW drama keeps throwing in torrid plot twists about the lives of the familiar characters. Episode four, “The Last Picture Show “, was no exception with the introduction of the town’s own biker gang—from the wrong side of the tracks—who happened to be the pawns in a larger conspiracy. The Southside Serpents have been terrorizing the Twilight drive-in cinema which helped cause it to be shut-down, and creating the perfect excuse for the main players to visit the drive-in’s final night.

While attending the closing night, Kevin—the son of Sheriff Keller who’s still busy looking for a murderer—ends up behind the concession making out with Serpent gang member Joaquin.

Rob Raco told TV Line he enjoyed playing a character not hung up by his sexuality. “Portraying Joaquin as confident with his sexuality as I am with mine [as a straight man] has been incredible. It’s inspirational to me. It’s fearless. Nothing is forced, nothing seems fake.”

It looks like we’ll be seeing the Kevin-Joaquin relationship unfold over several episodes this first season. Plus there are more secrets to be revealed in episode four, including a surprise twist about Jughead, but I’m not going to spoil it for you. Check out Riverdale on Netflix or the CW.
