Straight teen took gay best friend to their high school prom

Here’s a heart-warming story for today from Las Vegas (by way of LA). Anthony Martinez, a gay high-school student in Nevada, was having trouble finding a date for the prom, so his best friend asked him to be his date, despite being straight.

The boys were making headlines last month when they began sharing their story on social media. Jacob’s prom date fell through and he was planning on going alone when he saw Anthony tweet that he was dateless. So Jacob then decided to ask his best friend.

The boys recently appeared on The Ellen Show, to share their experience and Ellen teamed up with Shutterfly to reward the boys for showing the world what true friendship is by giving them each a $10,000 scholarship toward their college education.

All we can say is kids these days are awesome (and Ellen even more).
