    Chris Colfer’s Twitter account hacked; studio says actor is not leaving Glee

    According to Chris Colfer’s manager, the actor’s Twitter account was hacked and he’s not leaving Glee. A representative for 20th Century Fox TV issued this statement: “We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s Twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.” More

    Guardian newspaper corrects mistaking outing Sir Patrick Stewart

    The Guardian has made a correction to an article on Ellen Page’s coming out where Sir Patrick Stewart was incorrectly outed. The former Star Trek captain had retweeted Page’s tweet of thanks to the Human Rights Campaign. An opinion piece in the Guardian then assumed Patrick Stewart was gay, possibly because he’s friends with gay-rights campaigner and fellow actor Sir Ian Mckellen, but the paper has since corrected the article and issued a correction.

    Guardian: Kansas’ anti-gay bill: another attempt to force warped Christianity on others

    The Guardian has a good opinion piece summarizing the attempts by the religious right in the US to legalise discrimination against gays, currently playing out in Kansas. The State’s House of Representatives pass a bill that would allow religious freedom to trump other freedoms specifically where an individual (including government employees) or private business would be allowed to refuse service to gays if they feel it compromises their religious views.     Independent: Gay former Italian MP Vladimir Luxuria detained in Russia

    News outlets reported today that former Italian MP and the first openly transgender member of any European parliament Vladimir Luxuria was detained on Sunday by plain clothed police officers for holding a ‘Gay is OK’ banner at the Winter Olympics. Luxuria spoke after the incident, however according to the Independent newspaper both Olympic officials and Sochi police claim neither Luxuria or any Italian citizen was arrested last night.

    There are no gays in Sochi says its’ mayor

    There has been a lot of coverage of homophobia and the oppression of Russia’s gays leading up to the Olympics and now that the games are in full swing while the media is mostly focused on the sport some journalists have been asking the more hard hitting questions while the politicians are speaking.     Ugandan president signs anti-gay bill into law

    Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has signed into law a bill passed my Uganda’s parliament last December which will punish anyone convicted of ‘homosexual’ acts with life in prison. The original legislation called for executing anyone found to have performed ‘homosexual’ acts, but that provision was dropped but homophobic attacks have been widely encouraged throughout the country, often assisted by newspapers publishing the names and addresses of gay Ugandans. On 7 November, the European Court of Justice rules that gays from Uganda (as well as Sierra Leone and Senegal) were eligible for asylum in any European Union countries (including the UK). More
